SUMMARY
Background: The lower genital tract infections causing by bacteria, fungi or co-infected is common in women. This study aimed to determine the proportion of lower genital tract infections and a number of factors related to the lower genital tract infection in married women in Mo Cay Bac District, Ben Tre Province.
Methods: A cross- sectional descriptive study among 505 married women aged 18 to 49 in the district of North Cay Bac, Ben Tre Province from 10th, 2012 to March, 2013.
Results: 37.8% of study participants had lower genital tract infections, of which 34.6% was bacterial vaginosis and 27.2% was co- infected by bacteria and fungi. Farming, sun clothing places, sex hygience, women daily and menstrual hygience were found to increase the risk of lower genital tract infections.
Conclusion: The proportion of lower genital tract infection among women in Mo Cay Bac district in Ben Tre Province was high (37.8%). Educational programs for women hygience including women daily hygience, sex and menstrual hygience were need to be organized for women to prevent lower genital tract infection.
